This tool is not a Shopify integration. The downloaded result is a CSV to REVIEW, not an automatically validated import. Back up your original full Shopify export before trying any import.
What problem does it solve?
WooCommerce and some inventory exports place all image links for a product into one CSV cell. Shopify asks for an individual row for every additional product image, with the same product URL handle repeated. Copying dozens of image links manually is slow and easy to misalign with product variants.
This tool accepts that original multi-URL cell and a complete Shopify export, then inserts rows containing only the handle, image URL, image position and optional alt text. All original product and variant fields remain in the original rows. It does not invent missing products or silently change handles.
How to use the two CSV files
Step 1: Export the complete current Shopify products CSV; keep a safe backup. It needs a URL handle (or legacy Handle) and Title field and all variant-related fields from your store. Do not paste just a list of handles into this second panel.
Step 2: Create an image-source CSV containing a handle and an Images column. Example: Handle,Images with a row for blue-mug and one quoted cell containing https://.../back.jpg, https://.../detail.jpg. Add an Image Alt Text column if you want the same descriptive text on each image.
Step 3: Select the URL separator actually used inside each cell: comma, pipe, semicolon or newline. Use pipe if your image URL query parameters contain commas. Load the sample to see how the two exports fit together.
Step 4: Merge, review the number of new image rows, warnings about handles that were not found, and the output preview. Download a CSV copy. Nothing is sent to Shopify until you independently import the reviewed file.
What is preserved, skipped or blocked?
Original Shopify rows stay in the same order with their original variants, SKU values, pricing columns and titles. The utility adds image-only rows immediately after each matching product group and starts the image position after the highest existing image position. Image URLs already present are skipped.
An image-source handle missing from the Shopify export is reported and skipped, not used to create a phantom product. Non-contiguous product handle groups are rejected, because shuffling rows can detach images or variants. Up to 250 distinct images per product are allowed.
Public HTTPS image URLs are required. Localhost and private-network addresses, credentials inside URLs, and unsafe schemes are rejected. The utility never fetches image data. Alt text can be supplied per image-source record up to 512 characters; inspect descriptions before publishing.
Critical Shopify import and spreadsheet cautions
Shopify official guidance warns that excluding dependent variant option columns can delete variants during product updates, and product CSV imports cannot simply be canceled after they start. Always retain your complete export and import conservatively. The output is not a guarantee that Shopify will accept every product or image URL.
The optional spreadsheet formula safeguard prefixes cells beginning with suspicious spreadsheet formula operators to reduce CSV injection risk. It can modify values that look like formulas. If you disable it for a trusted machine-to-machine export, do not open unknown CSVs in spreadsheet applications without reviewing them.
Shopify downloads images from your public links during import. Links to cloud-drive preview pages, non-public file URLs, or unsupported media can fail. The tool cannot confirm that Shopify can fetch your URLs. The goal is to reduce repetitive manual row work, not bypass Shopify validation.
Check before importing
Shopify lists URL handle and Title as required for product updates. Variant option columns can depend on each other; removing required fields can delete or change variant data. This tool therefore keeps your original Shopify rows and inserts additional image-only rows, not a replacement skeleton of your products.
Product image URLs must already be public HTTPS image file links. This tool does not upload or verify images. When you first import an updated CSV, use a test copy/store or a single low-risk product and inspect all variants, pricing and media afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Does this add images to my live Shopify store?
No. It builds a downloadable CSV locally and never authenticates to Shopify. Import is a separate action that requires review and backup.
Will it preserve existing variants?
The output retains each original exported row and its variant fields. However, every store CSV should be checked against the latest Shopify import requirements before importing.
Can it handle commas inside image URLs?
Use a pipe or newline as the image-list separator when URLs themselves contain commas. You should not break those URLs at every comma.
What if a product handle does not exist in my Shopify export?
The tool reports the missing handle and skips its images instead of creating a new product.
Does this make images available on Shopify?
No. Image URLs must already be publicly accessible. Shopify fetches them only when you import your CSV.
