Clean CSV Spaces and Blank Rows

Fix untidy CSV exports before importing them into a CRM, spreadsheet, or data pipeline. Trim outer spaces, optionally collapse repeated spaces, and remove completely empty records.

File processing runs in a separate editor frame. The advertising scripts on this page cannot read or modify the editor contents.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste or load your CSV file. The parser handles quoted fields containing commas.
  2. Keep Trim leading/trailing spaces enabled for ordinary data cleanup.
  3. Turn on Collapse repeated spaces only if you want internal spacing normalized. It may change free-form notes.
  4. Process, inspect the cleaned preview, and download the result as a new CSV file.

What the tool changes (and what it does not)

Extra spaces often enter a CSV when values come from web forms, manual spreadsheets, or multiple vendor systems. A customer code like " ABC-123 " may fail to match the clean value in another system. Trimming values solves that without changing column names or rearranging records.

There are cases where internal spacing is intentional. For example, a free-text description may contain formatting that you need to preserve. That is why collapsing spaces is optional and disabled by default. Blank-row removal only targets records where every cell is empty after any selected trimming.

The tool keeps values as text. It will not silently convert 000123 into 123, convert dates into locale-specific values, or round long identifiers. If you open the output in spreadsheet software, formula-injection protection can prefix dangerous-looking values with an apostrophe.

Frequently asked questions

Will this tool remove spaces inside people's names?

Not by default. It trims spaces at the start and end of cells. Only the optional Collapse repeated spaces setting changes spacing inside values.

Can the cleaned file be opened in Excel?

Yes, the result is a standard CSV download. Choose the correct delimiter and encoding options in your spreadsheet application if they are requested.

Are blank cells deleted?

No. Individual empty cells remain. The Remove completely empty rows option only removes records in which every field is empty.
