CSV CHANGE TRACKER · FREE & PRIVATE

Compare two CSV files by ID, SKU or email — without uploading them

Upload nothing. Open an old and a new CSV export in the browser, match rows by a unique key, and download a clear report showing new, missing and modified records.

Both CSV files stay in a separate, ad-free browser editor.

Before comparing: choose an ID, SKU or email that uniquely identifies one row in BOTH files. This tool refuses duplicate and blank matching keys. It does not edit the original CSVs.

When this comparison saves work

Suppose a Shopify product export, warehouse stock list or CRM contact table is regenerated every day. Row numbers and export sorting often change; comparing line 8 to line 8 produces false differences. Matching the two snapshots on a stable SKU, customer ID or email identifies the same record regardless of row order.

The tool recognizes records present only in the newest export (ADDED), records missing from it (REMOVED), keys with one or more changed fields (CHANGED), and identical keyed records (UNCHANGED). The report lists each changed field, its previous and current value, and both original CSV row numbers.

How to compare two CSV exports safely

First, export a previous CSV and a current CSV with header rows. Paste them above or choose the two files stored on your device. CSV with quotes, embedded commas, tabs or semicolon delimiters is supported by automatic delimiter detection.

Second, choose the field that serves as a real unique business key. Matching is case-sensitive by default. Keys are trimmed at the ends for matching, while all non-key values are compared exactly as text. The tool will stop rather than silently choose between two rows sharing a key.

Third, review the summary and download the UTF-8 change report. ADDED and REMOVED entries include source field values; CHANGED entries name individual modified columns. The original export files are never overwritten. Downloaded CSV values are protected against spreadsheet formula interpretation, but spreadsheet software can still auto-convert long IDs or leading zeroes: use a Text column import setting.

Important limitations

The comparison uses exact column names, not guessed equivalents. If a field exists in only one export, it is shown as a schema difference and counts as changed for matched records. Different header orders do not matter. Unnamed or duplicate headers, malformed rows, blank keys and repeated business keys are rejected.

Each input is limited to 2 MB, 20,000 data rows and 200 columns. The report is capped at 40,000 individual field changes. The browser does not verify which row represents the true latest version; comparing the wrong exports or wrong key can produce a misleading change report. Always keep a backup and inspect important changes before applying them to a database.

Frequently asked questions

Can I compare CSV files when their rows have a different order?

Yes. The selected key connects records, so sorting differences alone do not appear as changes.

What if two customers have the same email?

Choose another unique identifier. The tool will show an error for repeated or blank keys instead of dropping ambiguous records.

Are my CSV files uploaded anywhere?

No. Both files are read in an isolated browser editor, separate from advertising on the surrounding page.

Can the report update my Shopify, Excel or Google Sheets data automatically?

No. It produces a reviewed CSV report only. It never writes to a third-party account or replaces your source data.
